Gifted Book Series Marilyn KayeMarilyn Kaye

Born in New Britain, Connecticut, but having grown up in Atlanta, Georgia, best-selling author Marilyn Kaye had lots of ambitions as a child, including becoming a teacher, a librarian, even the President of the United States, but she always wanted to be a writer.

While she didn’t achieve all of her goals, she did become a teacher, a librarian, and most importantly a writer. “I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs, and lots of letters. Writing wasn’t easy for me, but it felt natural and right.”

She has written several series for teens, including the international success Replica, Camp Sunnyside Friends, After-School Club, Out of this World, and Last on Earth. In 2008, her adaptation of a modern-day fairy tale, Penelope, was made into a major motion picture starring Christina Ricci. Gifted, published by Kingfisher, is her most recent series for teens. It focuses on the lives of nine very special teenagers who have extraordinary secrets.

Having earned a master’s degree in library science at Emory University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, Marilyn taught children’s and teen literature at St. John’s University in New York for over 20 years. Marilyn currently lives in Paris, France.
